Combat
Engage creatures across multiple worlds, earn Credits and increase your combat progression as stronger enemies become available.
Distant Shift combines combat, prospecting, gathering, fabrication, randomized puzzle mini-games, upgrades, hidden collectible Discoveries, achievements, world progression and Ascension into one connected sci-fi idle game.
Progress is spread across several interconnected activities. Each one contributes resources, efficiency or long-term power to the wider expedition.
Engage creatures across multiple worlds, earn Credits and increase your combat progression as stronger enemies become available.
Prospect for ore and minerals and use those resources to unlock upgrades, improve systems and push progression further.
Gather Field Essence as a core resource stream and strengthen the wider economy through continued profession growth.
Convert resources into useful components and advance toward more demanding fabrication recipes.
Distant Shift contains dozens of upgrades covering multiple systems, including upgrades purchased with Credits, ore and other progression resources.
Discovery Upgrades add another long-term layer, allowing new upgrades and improvements to reveal themselves as your expedition develops. They are separate from the collectible Discoveries found through active play.
Collectible Discoveries are mysterious expedition objects hidden behind successful manual Gathering, Combat, Prospecting and Fabrication actions. Passive production, idle progress and offline progress cannot uncover them.
When one is recovered, the game immediately opens a Discovery Found record and plays a dedicated discovery chime. You then choose one of three rewards weighted around your current progression, helping the find stay meaningful whether your expedition is young or deep into later sectors.
Recovered objects are stored permanently in the Expedition Archive and survive Ascension. Only objects you have actually found are shown, and Distant Shift deliberately never reveals how many Discoveries exist or how many remain.
Reaching Sector 40 unlocks the Expedition Puzzle Array, a dedicated side activity built around randomized puzzle challenges that sit alongside the main idle and progression systems.
A fresh puzzle becomes available when the array is ready. Complete the challenge, choose your reward and the system begins a two-hour recharge before the next rewarded puzzle can be played.
Before interacting with a newly generated puzzle, you can reshuffle it for a different challenge. The first meaningful interaction locks that puzzle in for the current session.
Each Puzzle Array activation selects from five puzzle systems, with randomized layouts designed to keep repeat attempts from becoming identical.
Drag tetromino-style cargo pieces from the tray onto the grid and fit every piece into the available space. Pieces can be picked back up and repositioned after placement, and the rotate control can be used to change their orientation. Larger 6x6 boards are considerably more difficult than the smaller layouts.
Move the tiles through the empty space until the complete arrangement has been restored. Plan several moves ahead so correctly positioned tiles are not trapped by later moves.
Rebuild the scrambled image by moving puzzle pieces into their correct positions. Continue until every section of the image is restored.
Rotate the circuit sections until the network forms a valid connected path. Keep adjusting the individual sections until the full circuit is restored.
Reveal concealed tiles and remember where each symbol is located. Match identical pairs until the entire board has been cleared.
Your expedition expands across seven currently playable worlds, each with its own creatures, environment, soundtrack and place within the wider progression journey. Deadly Void is the next destination shown on the Star Chart.
Begin the expedition and establish the systems that power everything that follows.
Push into a harsher frontier with steeper passage requirements and stronger threats.
Explore an increasingly hostile environment filled with unusual biological and synthetic threats.
Move deeper into the mid-game as resource and combat requirements continue to rise.
Advance into a late-stage desert frontier where stronger systems and deeper reserves matter.
Reach the late-game city that once marked the edge of the known expedition.
Cross the threshold beyond Neon City and enter the newest late-game destination.
The next destination has been revealed, but no expedition route is available yet.
Ascension lets you sacrifice selected current progression in exchange for permanent bonuses that strengthen future runs.
The further you progress, the more valuable long-term decisions become as temporary growth feeds permanent strength.
Each of the seven currently playable worlds has a dedicated ambient music track, giving every stage of the expedition its own atmosphere while you progress.
Distant Shift is designed around incremental growth, but progression is not limited to simply watching numbers increase.
Choose upgrades, change activities, push professions, solve Puzzle Array challenges, unlock new systems and decide when your current run is ready for Ascension.
Distant Shift runs directly in your browser with no separate installer required.
